Reading Group of newly published book "Growing Old Gracefully"
The first reading group of the newly published book was organized on 13 December 2019 at Big Mag’s Carers Station. Prof Timothy Kwok, Director of Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing shared his precious experience in Geriatrics. He also shared his experience on how to develop a dementia friendly hospital and expand the community support.

Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers for Carer Workers and Health Workers
JCCPA and Social Welfare Department jointly organized the “Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers” from October 2019 to January 2020.
The second and third class for frontline staff were conducted on 5 November, 16 December and 23 December 2019. The course received very positive feedback and a full enrolment. Dr Chan Wai Chi, Clinical Associate Professor of the University of Hong Kong, our Senior Training Consultant Mr. Kenny Chui and Occupational Therapist Ms. Cammy Leung shared their practical knowledge and precious experience about dementia. The content covered effective communication skills, support for caregivers, distressing behaviors and so forth. We believe that this training course enhanced the basic knowledge of the participants in dementia and practical skills in taking care of people with dementia.
Advanced Diploma Programme in Dementia Care
We are much honored to have invited Prof. Helen Chan, Associate Professor of Department of Nursing from the Chinese University of Hong Kong to share her expertise knowledge in Advance Care Plan.
At the same time, our Senior Training Consultant Mr. Kenny Chui also shared with the students on the topic of “Supporting the needs of family caregivers” and the microfilm “The Tail Before”.
"The Tail Before "Film Public Screening cum "Care in Late Stage Dementia" Sharing Session (the 15&16th session)
JCCPA and Wing Wah Charity Foundation jointly organize a number of film screenings of “The Tail Before” Film Public Screening cum “Care in Late Stage Dementia” Sharing Sessions from July 2018 to June 2020. We hope to initiate discussion among caregivers on Advance Care Plan and also encourage professionals in the fields to start conversation with caregivers on the issue. In the long run, we aspire to have more people prepare for their families or themselves in long term care plan. We deeply appreciate the generous support from Wing Wah Charity Foundation.
The sixteenth screening session was successfully held on 21 December 2019. We are much honored to have invited Dr Jacqueline Yuen, Clinical Assistant Professor from the Department of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong to share her valuable experience on the topic of Advance Care Plan with our clients and member from Jockey Club Cadenza Hub. Dr Yuen openly has a casual discussion with our Training Consultant Mr Andrew Lau so that our participants could easily understand and more willing to express their views and concerns on the said topic.

Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme
The programme staff of PDSP has set up a street counter near the Ma On Shan MTR Station to carry out cognitive tests using EC Screen App for the nearby residents on 23 and 24 December.
Visits to E.F.C.C.-Hong Fook Church, Kwong Fuk Alliance Church and Sun Chui Lutheran Centre for the Elderly were made to provide follow up cognitive tests for the participants who has signs of dementia symptoms in the previous test using EC Screen App.
PDSP aims to promote early screening, early diagnosis and early intervention for people with MCI or early dementia by providing free cognitive test for adults aged 50 or above. Please feel free to contact us for more details (Tel: 2946 8185).

3 December: Mr Kenny Chui was invited by Social Welfare Department to share “Understanding the signs and symptoms of MCI for early identification”, “Introduction to assessment tools in early identifying and assessing MCI of elders”, “Ways to motivate elders with MCI to receive assessment and intervention”, “Intervention modes in helping elders with MCI with a view to delay their deterioration and their carers’ stress” and “Introduction to community resources for identifying and treating MCI of elders ” with 89 professional staff.
5 December: Training Consultant Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Buddhist Sum Ma Shui Ying C&A Home for the Elderly to share “Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia” and “Case Management” with 30 frontline staff.
7 December: Prof Timothy Kwok was invited by Hong Kong Public Libraries to share “Challenge of Population Ageing: Dementia” with 100 general public audiences.
